The Board recognized REINS Therapeutic Horsemanship Program for recently hosting the BUSD leadership team for a wellness and team-building retreat. The experience provided District leaders with an opportunity to connect, reflect and prepare for the new school year in a unique and meaningful setting. Receiving the acknowledgement were Allison Solander, Grace Welch, and Dr. Joanna Seber.
One BUSD administrator shared that an exercise in which participants observed the horses before learning their individual stories offered a powerful parallel to welcoming students back to school. Just as first impressions did not reveal the horses’ full histories, educators may not immediately know the experiences, challenges and strengths each student brings into the classroom.
REINS and Bonsall Unified are exploring opportunities to partner in ways that could connect BUSD students with the organization and its mission, providing meaningful experiences while supporting an exceptional local cause.
The Board also recognized members of the BUSD summer crew, whose hard work throughout the summer helped ensure campuses were clean, prepared and ready to welcome students and staff for the 2026-27 school year.
Two employees from Vivian Banks Charter School, Brenda Perez and Melissa Castro, received special recognition for their exceptional efforts at VBCS. Their dedication and willingness to go above and beyond were highlighted as examples of the commitment BUSD employees bring to their schools and students.
The evening’s recognitions also celebrated two students from the BUSD Adult Transition Program, Abe Monreal and Xavier Edwards. Both students were recognized for their outstanding work, positive attitudes and the enthusiasm they bring to the program.
The student trustee, Bonsall High School senior Aaron Arellano, took the oath of office to serve on the board for the 2026-27 school year. Aaron started at BUSD as a TK student. He is involved in many student experiences offered at BHS including Mock Trial, Speech & Debate, and the Varsity Baseball team.
Together, the August recognitions highlighted the people and partnerships that help make Bonsall Unified a special place to learn and work. From community organizations opening their doors, to employees working behind the scenes, to students demonstrating positivity and perseverance, each recognition reflected BUSD’s commitment to building a community where everyone has the opportunity to belong, believe and achieve.
