MIDDLE SCHOOL/HIGH SCHOOL
Dear Parents/Guardians,
We are excited to share that following a thorough and collaborative review process, the Bonsall Unified School District has selected a new Spanish curriculum for our middle and high school students: MAPAS (Métodos Académicos para el Progreso del Aprendizaje del Español). This innovative and culturally responsive curriculum supports students at introductory, intermediate, and Advanced Placement (AP) levels in building Spanish language proficiency through real-world, project-based learning experiences.
The adoption process followed these key steps:
STEP #1 – Pilot of Curriculum (Completed)
Spanish teachers from both the middle and high school piloted the MAPAS curriculum with students during the school year. Teachers evaluated the program’s alignment with state standards, engagement level, and effectiveness in building both language skills and cultural competence.
STEP #2 – Selection of Curriculum (Completed)
Based on pilot results and teacher feedback, MAPAS was selected for its strong emphasis on academic vocabulary, oral fluency, and written expression through meaningful content and interactive projects.
STEP #3 – Public Display Period
Parents and guardians will have the opportunity to preview the MAPAS curriculum for 30 days via the BUSD website. Instructions for accessing the digital review materials will be posted online.
STEP #4 – Board Approval
The recommendation to adopt the MAPAS curriculum will be presented at the June Board of Trustees meeting for formal approval.
STEP #5 – Purchase of Curriculum
Upon board approval, BUSD will move forward with the purchase of the MAPAS program for use starting in the 2025–2026 school year.
STEP #6 – Delivery of Materials
Instructional materials are expected to arrive before the start of the 2025–2026 school year to ensure a smooth transition.
